It’s been a pleasure working with Autism Hampshire this year (2017), as their consultant Fundraising Manager. One of the highlights for me has been getting to know Lawrie McMenemy a little. Spending some time with him organising his 13th annual charity golf day, and getting to play a round with one of the teams.

Below is a write up of how the day unfolded

With a slice of good luck the sun was shining on the 7th June for the 13th anniversary of the Lawrie McMenemy Celebrity Golf Day in aid of Autism Hampshire. The day was once again hosted at the picturesque Royal Winchester Golf Club. It’s the only royal club in Hampshire. And once again there was a fantastic turnout of celebrities and teams.

A total of 19 teams set off to a shotgun start and completed the course in good time to finish off the day with a prize-giving dinner. Local company K Wilson Ltd took the winner’s trophy and were delighted with the win.

Once again the generosity of all the teams and their celebrities raised over £12,500 to help support the individuals and families affected by autism across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Special thanks must also go to the event’s generous sponsors: Meachers Global Logistics, Liberty Leasing Plc and Sainsbury’s Hedge End as well as all the other companies which donated prizes for the winning teams.

During the dinner, Mike Osman entertained guests with his comedy and impressions while auctioning off several prizes including a dinner for four at Keats restaurant with football legend hosts Matt Le Tissier and Lawrie McMenemy. Our thanks go to Daverio for so generously donating this prize. And to Matt and Lawrie for agreeing to host the meal.

Thank you also to Tina Wellman-Hawke for volunteering her photography skills during the celebrity golf day and taking all of the photos.
